Tegler Closure – March 19, 2013
Concordia will be celebrating our students and donors at Awards Night on Tuesday, March 19.
Please note that the Tegler Student Centre will be closed starting at 3:00pm on Tuesday for set up and will reopen on Wednesday morning.
Students will need to find an alternative route around Tegler during the closure.
Our apologies for the disruption.
President Krispin’s Response to the Budget
Today the Honourable Doug Horner, Minister of Finance, delivered the Alberta Government’s 2013/14 budget. Our primary concern was how the budget would affect Concordia’s funding relative to the Post-Secondary operational grant. Last year the Government of Alberta increased our funding by 2%. This year there was no increase; but Concordia was also not subjected to any major cuts. And that is relatively good news.
In anticipation of this budget, the administration and Board of Concordia had budgeted for just such a scenario; in other words, it was and is a budget of austerity and restraint. This means practically that many very necessary capital improvements are on hold. But it also means that operations relative to salaries and service to students are maintained at a sustainable level. With a probable increase in enrolments, greater returns on ancillary services, and efficiencies gained by further review of our operations, I believe Concordia will be able to advance in the coming academic year.
We were also informed that along with our funding come expectations for greater efficiencies within our sector and within all of Campus Alberta. We have been proactive on this front and look forward to working with Enterprise and Advanced Education to improve upon our contribution to Post-Secondary education in Alberta.
